At the end of the school year for many nurseries and kindergartens, it’s time for the children “to get out” of their daily routine a little, to go to other places, to see and get to know new things and, why not, to handle the dough the way it’s done in a real bakery.
During May, some groups of children from Associação Betel came to visit us. This is an association based in Ponte de Vagos whose main aspects include a nursery, kindergarten, free-time activity centre, a day centre and home support service. In the morning and the afternoon, curious little minds between the ages of 4 and 6 filled our premises with smiles, good humour and lots of giggles.
The little apprentices came with the educators from Betel and were guided by our master baker, Mr. Oliveira, and rolled up their sleeves and did their very best inside the Ferneto bakery.
First of all, they peeked inside the mixer bowl, where they saw all the ingredients being mixed, and realised that the machine’s strength is important to help make good dough and good bread. Using their best work instruments, their energetic hands and enthusiasm to work, the children were keen and attentive in following the steps indicated and become bakers for a day. It wasn’t easy, they had to try hard, get dirty and wait, so that their product could be tasted.
And that’s how it was, with that lovely smell of bread, listening to the happy giggles of the little bakers filling our factory with good energy, making us even more motivated to continue doing our work. Special thanks to all the children who visited us, as well as to all the Betel employees for the sweet, fun visit.
